A Star in Exaltation

As she stands above the horizon, erect,
She dashingly dignifies the December sky,
Alternating her motion; retrograde, direct,
Dynamically dancing graciously with the stars so high.

Named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty,
She boasts of being a star on both the evening and the morn’
Depending on her location in relation to our Sun, almighty.

In our solar system, she is the hottest world!
Blame that on her atmosphere, so dense!
Ninety times heavier than our own, my word!
No wonder she spurs all that lava, so tense!

Never too far away from the Sun,
47 degrees is her maximum elongation.
So, what does this mean for her?
Solar oppositions never occur!

Her core is made of iron-nickel alloy,
Hmm, seems she has much to enjoy!
But where, oh where, is my moon?
She cries out in despair and gloom.
For despair and gloom, there is no room,
For she is unique and special,
And dances to her own tune!
